I had told Larry and Verna I was an early riser, so at 6:15 they are knocking at the door. A few pictures and off to breakfast at the Route 66 Café. Its food! That's all I'm going to say.

Monday morning, it's 8:30 am as we wish each other safe travels. They are heading to Winslow. I'm heading south to the Petrified National Forest. As I am purchasing a yearly pass, the ranger comments on my car. She then proceeds to tell me about a month ago; there was a group of six 2005's that came through the park! Nice road test Chevrolet!

Interstate 40 heads to Albuquerque, NM. I have several side trips that I would like to take, but don't have time. I don't know why, but I chose to take highway 12 to Fort Defiance and then looped around to Window Rock. It is a beautiful area and a great drive. Lots of history. There is never enough time to see it all.

Heading east to Gallup, NM I grab I-40 again. In Albuquerque, I turn north on I-25 to Santa Fe. Another capitol I missed. I cannot believe that last year, I stopped in both Phoenix and Sante Fe, and forgot to take pictures of the capitols as my daughter had asked.

North from Santa Fe is Las Vegas (New Mexico). There is a beautiful drive through the hills and mountains. This is where I rested for the night.

Tuesday morning, I'm up early, writing this. Gotta get back on the road! I will head southeast to Tucumcari and back to I-40 and Oklahoma City, maybe Tulsa.

The interstates are great for making time and distance; however, the back roads are so much more interesting!
