Saturday is overcast as we head north to Cave City. Karen and I are to meet Denny and Chris at 10 am at their Tepee. This set of Tepees is the second in a series of 6. As I pull into the parking lot, I make a hard left turn in front of the Tepees to get a picture. Walking around the front of the car, something catches my eye and I notice the left front tire. The cord is showing on the inside. I check the other tire, it is wearing but no cord is showing. Before I left Alpine, I had checked the tires and pressures and everything looked good. Now I need new front tires and it's late Saturday morning.
As we head off to a recommended breakfast spot, Karen is now a worry wart about the front tires. Arriving at breakfast, I ask for a phone book and start calling local Chevy dealers and tire stores. Most are are closed. Those open don't have the tires needed. I call the NCM and ask if anyone knows of tires available. No luck.
I call Louisville and find a Goodyear store that has the tires and will hold them, however they close shortly and are not open Sunday.
It's not the Adversity, but the challenge!
Can't do anything about it so we are off to Mammoth Caves. We arrive just in time to get in the 12:45 pm Historic tour. There are many tours, but this one is recommenced if you have never been here before or been on a tour. The tour is approximately 2 hours in duration and 2 miles in length. You descend 360 feet and are required to bend, twist and walk the whole thing.
Ranger Rick is bringing up the rear and is enlightening us with cave information. Rick and I pose for a picture at fat man's misery. a winding narrow tunnel about waist high, and average waist wide, get the picture?
It is a tour that was well worth our time and would definitely do a future tour coming back to bowling green.
Arriving back at the he NCM. I go to the vendor's area to see if anyone has tires. All I am able to find is a set of wheels and tires together, and the vendor is not willing to separate, they also want $3000.00!
It is my understanding there are two to other people in need of tires. Wonderful.
I wait in line to get Dave Hill and crew's signatures on an ALL 50 T-shirt and 2003 ZO6 model. I thank them for a great product and ride.
We arrive at the Bowling Green Convention center for the C5 banquet. It is a nice celebration to conclude the weekend.
Sunday morning we are awakened by the sound of rain and hail. Fortunately the hail is small and light. By the time we leave to head to Louisville, the rain has ceased. Denny and Chris are meeting us at cave city and escorting us to Louisville to make sure Karen gets to the airport and I don't get stranded.
Saying goodbyes, here I sit in Louisville, waiting for Goodyear to open tomorrow morning.
It's not the destination, but the journey!
