Day 2

Kansas City

Budweiser, the Harry S. Truman Museum & Independence, Missouri

Saturday, April 26, 2003Kansas City, KS / Independence, MO

Day 2 — clear and warm. Ray was heading west through the heart of America.

Day 2 was clear and warm — a good day for driving.

A quick photo opportunity with Bud(weiser) in Kansas City — the Budweiser Clydesdales are based at the Grant's Farm facility in St. Louis, but the brand is everywhere in the Midwest. Ray stopped for a photo.

Independence, Missouri was a personal stop — Ray visited Rosalie and Jack, the parents of a pal. Independence is best known as the hometown of President Harry S. Truman, and the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum is here.

The Truman Library was a highlight of the day — a comprehensive look at the life and presidency of the man who made some of the most consequential decisions in American history: dropping the atomic bomb, the Marshall Plan, the Berlin Airlift, the Korean War.

A stop in Overland, Kansas to try to get some computer help — the ALL50 website was a live operation, and keeping it updated required reliable internet access, which was not always easy to find in 2003.
