Memorial Day, Day 32. Ray saluted all those who fought and died for America's freedom — and then got his first speeding ticket.
Memorial Day. Ray and ALL50 saluted all those who have fought and died for our country's freedom.
The National Black Hills Memorial was the first stop — a solemn tribute to the veterans of all American wars, set in the dramatic landscape of the Black Hills.
Then: Mount Rushmore. The four presidents — Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Lincoln — carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore by sculptor Gutzon Borglum between 1927 and 1941. One of the most iconic images in America.
Then: the first speeding ticket of the trip. Ray had driven 32 days and thousands of miles without getting pulled over. Wyoming ended that streak. Not for lack of trying, as Ray noted.
Through Wyoming — the Oregon Trail, a storm that just missed dropping hail — and south into Colorado, arriving in Colorado Springs for the night.

Somewhere in Wyoming, Ray received his first (and only) speeding ticket of the entire ALL50 road trip. 32 days, thousands of miles, and finally: a ticket. Not for lack of trying, as he noted.

The route through Wyoming follows portions of the Oregon Trail — the 2,170-mile wagon route that carried hundreds of thousands of settlers west between 1836 and 1869.

Colorado Springs — at the foot of Pikes Peak, home of the US Air Force Academy, the US Olympic Training Center, and Garden of the Gods.
